Great Cantonese style dim sum in Burlingame with outdoor seating options, expansive menu, and not too long of a wait to get a table. Seriously, the menu is huge. This place is great for big groups.

While searching for a good birthday party spot, we stayed awhile to enjoy a few dishes. It was a lovely place with pleasant people & pretty plates. Menu was a bit out of the box, but my hubby managed to order some tasty bites. Jasmine Hot Tea , Cilantro Rice Noodle Rolls, Ribs in black bean sauce, sauteed Chinese Broccoli in ginger sauce, pan seared Scallion Pancakes, Porcupine Custard Buns, & braised E-Fu Noodles w/Eggplant, Garlic, & Chili. Overall, would come again but may need some tips from a pro for our next visit.

Met up with an old friend for my birthday dim sum lunch. HL Peninsula Pearl took over the space of a large Mexican restaurant right on the water with views of the San Francisco Bay. HL has a large dim sum menu and you order off a check list. The interior is dominated with a huge video wall that has a continuous advertising loop. The restaurant was full but we got seated right away. Along with the traditional Siu Mai, Ha Gao, congee, pork ribs with black bean sauce rice rolls, and chicken feet etc.. Some of the stand outs were the deep fried pumpkin with salty duck egg yolk, and bbq pork turnover. The portions are larger than normal. Service was slow, cold and indifferent. But it would not feel normal if the Cantonese service was any other way at a dim sum house. Minus star. Gratuity is added automatically, perhaps that's why. Parking is always tough with the large dim sum houses in the Peninsula. $150 with tip.
